Kenya Kite Cup

Celebrating wind and speed at Diani's annual kitesurfing competition! The 2023 competition was held at Nomad Beach Bar & Restaurant on the 20th & 21st of January. Every year it takes place between the second or third week of January, depending on the best wind days.

This year, Eveline Van Dijk, H2o-Extreme’s new owner, Rik Van Rampelberg, and Chris Bull, ex Kite Pro and Red Bull King of the Air judge, took to the beach to judge the riders of this year’s competition.

The Kenya Kite Cup welcomes competitors from all over the region, as well as internationally, to compete for some epic prizes! The two days showcase both men and women competitors, from young and old, amateur and professional riders. You can be sure to see some top-notch kite action happening on the Indian Ocean!

Big thanks to our 2023 sponsors: Base Titanium, Aquelle, TuskerLite, Pesapal, Dion & Fourpillars, SGA, and Swahili Beach.

Freestyle competition

The competitors perform freestyle movements and selected judges allocate points based on difficulty, fluidity and style of the trick plus kite position during the manoeuvre. Women and men compete separately.

Downwind Relay Race

A maximum of ten teams, with three riders each team, will race against each other in a downwind relay. The fastest team, with all three riders being at the final, will win. Each team will be "auctioned" and the spectators have the chance to bet on a team. The person who bet on the winning team will get 50% of the whole pot. The rest will go to the charity organisation.

Hawaiian Party

Our famous Hawaiian dress-up after party is held on the Saturday of the competition weekend. The sundeck at Nomads transforms into a dance floor with DJ Msango, who most of us know from Forty Thieves Beach Bar, playing your favourite tunes. Join us for the biggest party of the year, meet up with friends at the bar or dance the night away.

We will give away a prize for best costume!

Raffle & craft stalls

For the non-kiters we will have a big raffle running throughout the whole weekend. Tickets will be available at 250 Ksh per piece or 1000 Ksh for 5 tickets. All proceeds from raffle ticket sales will be donated to the charity project. Stand a chance to win exciting prizes such as free safaris, hotel vouchers, day trips, meals in local restaurants or vouchers for other activities. There will be many prizes available!

Further on we will have a selection of Kenyan businesses showcasing and selling their products exclusively at the event.

We promise you an action-packed weekend. Join us for 3 days of fun on the beach!
