About H2O-Extreme
H2O Extreme is Kenya’s first and most established watersports center, offering everything from kitesurfing, windsurfing, SUP, and surfing to kayaking, bodyboarding, and skimboarding. We’re also proud to be Kenya’s first IKO-affiliated kite school, with over 15 years of experience shaping the watersports scene along the coast.
Founded in 2003 by Boris Polo—a Kenyan-born pioneer of the sport—H2O started as a small surf shack at The Sands at Nomad and later 40 Thieves Beach Bar. Seeking better conditions away from the tides and boats of central Diani, Boris relocated the center to Galu Beach, where the water is clearer, the beach wider, and the riding simply better.
Boris didn’t just help build watersports tourism in Kenya—he also explored its wildest places by kite, from crossing the Chalbi Desert on land boards to becoming the first person ever to kite on Lake Turkana, the world’s largest desert lake.
In 2022, Eveline van Dijk, a passionate kitesurfer and instructor from the Netherlands, took the helm of H2O Extreme. With years of experience teaching over 1,200 students around the world, Eveline is now living her dream in Diani—kiting, teaching, and sharing the incredible Kenyan coastline with new adventurers every day.

IKO AFFILIATED CENTER
We’re proud to say that H2O was the very first kitesurfing school in Kenya to be affiliated with the International Kiteboarding Organization (IKO)—way back in 2006. That legacy continues today.
We’ve remained an official IKO Center ever since, upholding the highest international standards in safety, instruction, and equipment. All our instructors are IKO certified, and every lesson follows a globally recognised progression system designed to get you riding confidently—and safely. Nearly two decades later, we’re still setting the bar.
